  • Verbos

The eight different industries represented in Verbos belong to Portugal's industrial tradition and have long been associated with the country's economic health. In an era of de-localization and outsourcing, they have become synonymous with un-employment and hardship. As verbs might, the workers I photographed have been changed from transitive to intransitive entities. Their readiness to forsake personal health in exchange for a salary has been deemed insufficient and rendered redundant. These photographs are about both the use and exploitation of the body, as a means of survival and as a mere instrument of production.
