New Discoverers

Immigrants adapt and appropriate their new surroundings to suit the needs of living in a foreign land, and the preservation of personal memory and collective heritage. These photographs were taken in seven different neighborhoods belonging to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area that harbor communities from former Portuguese colonies. These images are as much about individual endeavor and resilience as they are about collective survival and affirmation.
