Urra

The 21 photographs in Urra were commissioned by the County of Grândola, in the south of Portugal, as part of a curated exhibition on the territory. The pictures were taken between December 2000 and May 2001, handed in as promised, but never used nor paid for. Once questioned about such a bewildering outcome to a broadly presented public initiative, the newly elected mayor claimed to have never heard of the project, and forwent any effort to resolve the matter. Urra is as much about place and altered landscape as it is about unspent potential and personal disappointment.
